The infrared image was overlaid onto the digital image to show the location of the moisture in the roof deck. As the commercial roof deck cools down in the evening, the moisture laden areas (yellow and orange areas) will retain the heat longer than the drier areas of the roof deck. The infrared scan can identify moisture-soaked insulation under a flat roof membrane where the water intrusion has occurred, permitting the surgical repair of failed areas rather than the much more costly replacement of the entire roof.
